2009 Outstanding Conservation District
Nevada Tahoe Conservation District was named the 2009 Outstanding Conservation District of the Year by the
Nevada Association of Conservation Districts. In naming the district the association cited the quality and diversity
of the staff and projects underway and completed at the District. Specifically, the association named the Angora
Fire Reforestation Project where over 700 volunteers, schools, civic groups and the United States Forest Service
participated in planting over 6,000 new trees in the burned area. Also cited were the multiple projects that are
underway to assess fine particle source control in relation to stormwater management and our continuing outreach
to landowners under the backyard conservation program.

Merit Award
The Nevada Tahoe Conservation District received a merit award from the Nevada Department of Corrections,
Northern Nevada Correction Facility and the Nevada Division of Forestry for our work in creating chip transfer
facilities in the Lake Tahoe Basin that assist in getting chips from the successful Fire Safe Council and local
fire district hazard fuel reduction neighborhood projects to the biomass fired co-generation power/steam plant
located at the prison. The Douglas County Facility provided over 400 tons of green wood which operated the plant
for 12 days. The plant provides power and steam to the prison and prison farm in South Carson City .
